ABSTRACT
The urban development of the large cities in developing countries has, until recently, been examined within concepts derived from the developed world. It seems necessary to look for another form of analysis more in keeping with the special features of the towns concerned. Indeed, it is on these features, when they are better understood, that we could hope to act in order to promote a centrifugal development which would continue after initial help and stimulation.
