ABSTRACT

Systems Training for Emotional Predictability and Problem Solving, or STEPPS, a group treatment for outpatients with borderline personality disorder (BPD), is described. The 20-week program was developed to address the cognitive distortions and behavioral dyscontrol that occurs in borderline patients. STEPPS combines psychoeducation and skills training with a systems component, the latter involving significant others, health care professionals, and others with whom the patient regularly interacts. Data from the U.S. and The Netherlands have shown that the model is well accepted by patients and therapists, and is effective in relieving depression and other symptoms associated with the disorder. doi:10.1300/J200v06n01_14 [Article copies available for a fee from The Haworth Document Delivery Service: 1-800-HAWORTH.
