ABSTRACT
Modern liberal constitutional states resolve moral disagreements between citizens in two basic ways:
1 democratically: typically through a decision taken by elected representatives (more atypically, by a direct referendum);
2 judicially: typically through a decision taken by a body of judges authorised to interpret some higher or constitutional law.
