Religiosity as a Way of Appropriating Knowledge

Each year the town of Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, the land where Father Cícero lived and died, is thronged by multitudes of pilgrims in ever increasing numbers, sometimes tripling the local population during the principal festivities. From the social, economic, political, and religious points of view, the infl uence of that movement is huge.
