ABSTRACT

For inclusive education to be realized, it is important for all school professionals, especially teachers, to be aware of basic and accurate information regarding the most common impairments or disabilities. Th e approaches in this chapter off er information and practices that refl ect general awareness about disability and inclusive teaching. Th ey are starting points and basics for beginning professional inclusive practice. It is crucial to remember that individuals experience disability uniquely and develop ways to navigate school and society. It is always important to learn about individual students by asking questions about their preferences and needs. Learning from students, families, shared experiences, and other professionals can guide teaching practice beyond the basics.
