ABSTRACT

In the previous chapter, I explored the pluralistic state of our discipline, only recently recognized as a major concern worthy of concentrated attention (Wallerstein, 1992). Although many prefer to ignore the unsettling implications of multiperspectivism, an ever-growing number believe we must rise to the challenge. Although this issue has stimulated angst and acrimony, it simultaneously presents exciting opportunities for creating a more complex, cohesive, comprehensive, and useful science and profession.
