ABSTRACT

The discipline and profession of psychology have blossomed, and master's and doctoral level psychologists seem to be enjoying many new career opportunities. For example, the American Psychological Association now boosts more than 50 separate divisions with members working on a diverse range of topics such as: addictions; adult development; advertising; aging; child, youth, and family services; conflict resolution; criminal justice; ethnic minorities; human resources; law and psychology; lesbian, gay, and bisexual issues; media; police and public safety; and social policy issues among others. As noted in chapter 1, now more than ever before, psychological scientists or those trained in research psychology at the graduate level are choosing to apply psychological science and to chart new territories within nonacademic careers. The purpose of this chapter is to describe a growing, socially meaningful, and potentially lucrative career niche for those interested in applying psychology–the transdisciplinary profession of evaluation science.
