ABSTRACT

Medieval history has witnessed three different armies march from Central Asia towards Jerusalem. The Khoresmian warriors of 1244 were first, then for the next hundred years Jerusalem lived under the constant fear and dread of the Mongols, and finally, in 1401, the army of Timur approached the boarders of the Holy Land. The Khoresmians and Mongols destroyed Jerusalem. Timur did not. Why? Let us have a closer look at these three invasions.
