ABSTRACT

F or humans, more cerebral volume is devoted to the integration of vision and related functions than any of our other senses. The total surface area of vision-related regions is approximately 55% of the entire cortical surface, which compares to the 11% devoted for somatosensory functions and 3% for auditory functions (Kolb & Whishaw, 1996). A great deal of our daily (for example, driving or navigating), recreational (action sports, crafts, and so forth), and jobrelated (computer operation, working with and assembling materials, and writing, for example) activities are reliant on well-functioning visual-spatial skills.
