ABSTRACT
No American president has deployed the language and imagery of American exceptionalism to better effect than Ronald Reagan. For most American conservatives, Ronald Reagan is the greatest president, certainly the greatest Republican president, of the 20th century (a quick look ahead to Table 10.1 on page 313 will confirm this). One of Reagan’s greatest strengths was his ability to communicate an unwavering commitment to America’s fundamental values —to “American exceptionalism.”
