ABSTRACT
In chapter 3 on neurolinguistics, I introduced some of the key terms related to descriptions of neural, primarily cerebral, substrates of speech and language. These are lateralization, localization, and specialization, and the related terms representation and mapping. Before we proceed with a systematic analysis of the relationship between speech and language functioning and brain activity, which is the central topic of the book, each of these terms are briey dened.
