ABSTRACT
It is with some diffidence that I, a European, address issues of Taiwanese security. In the winter of 2000, the first edition of the journal, Taiwanese Defense Affairs, was published by Legislator Michael M. Tsai. Not only is it an extremely impressive collection of excellent articles, but it also makes it very difficult to add anything of substance to such a comprehensive analysis of Taiwan's security.
