ABSTRACT

In addition to copyright, authors now have in the UK personal statutory rights relating to their works and their reputations, called moral rights. They are quite separate from the copyright itself, and remain attached to the author personally, or the author’s estate, even if the copyright is later assigned to someone else, such as a publisher. They cannot be sold or assigned to anyone else (although they can be inherited) but they can be waived: we will consider waiver further, below.
