Some Considerations on Development Aid to Small Countries *

Summary: Various possible meanings of the concept of country size are discussed. The explanations in DeVries’ paper of higher per capita levels of aid to small countries are disputed, although there may be good reasons why such countries should receive more aid. Possible relations between country size and institutional efficiency are worth more detailed examination, as are constraints on import-substitution policies in small countries.
