ABSTRACT
Three phenomena which have been identified in the past decade are gradually transforming the structure of production, society and even culture: the end of urban sprawl, the proliferation of small-and medium-sized firms and the return to work on an individual scale. These three phenomena, acting together, probably mark the end of the industrial era during which the large industrial complexes gradually emerged, encircled by vast built-up areas in which the working class was formed.
