ABSTRACT
The general trend towards stroke-play as the major test of a golfer’s ability has given rise to an obsession with golf statistics and hence, game analysis. The obsession in itself is harmless and quite often leads to interesting information being revealed that would otherwise have remained hidden. One approach recently adopted on the European Tour is the Philips Mobile Radio Statistics procedure of breaking down a player’s performance into major departments of the game. Those selected are driving distance (DD), driving accuracy (DA), the number of greens hit in regulation strokes (GIR), the number of putts taken per round (PPR) and recovery performance from bunkers (SS).
