ABSTRACT

The lack of agreement as to the true merits, advantages or disadvantages of graphite shafts, even among the experts of the game (be they shaft manufacturers, club professionals, or touring professionals) is astounding. Bold claims of five to forty yard increases in driving distance using graphite shafted clubs have been pronounced by the executives and sales personnel of several graphite shafted club companies. Such claims have been met with both acceptance and ridicule from golfers who have made their own comparisons, using two clubs on a range or on the golf course proper.
