ABSTRACT

Recent technological advances have permitted detailed bio-mechanical, kinematic and kinetic analyses of complex movements, yet Cooper et al (1974) pointed out that questions concerning body weight shift, forces generated at the feet as well as other kinematic aspects of the swing had not been satisfactorily answered. An investigation which examined the

movements and forces occurring at the feet during the swing (Williams and Cavanagh, 1983) for three different skill-level groups revealed as much within group variation as between group variation for force-time curves and centre of pressure patterns. It was also noted that individuals possessed an ability to repeat almost identical force-production patterns for successive swings.
