ABSTRACT

The greatest incursion of e-learning in higher education is through blended learning designs. However, as a result of the stealthy nature of blended learning, many educators are not fully aware of the influence that e-learning is having on higher education. Using online tools has become accepted and commonplace. Most courses in higher education have an e-learning presence in terms of online access to content, feedback, and discourse. This quiet revolution has been largely organic but we should not underestimate the transformational impact that blended learning represents. The only missing component to a more rapid transformation is proactive senior leadership in higher education strategically to recognize the need for more active learning experiences (see Chapter 11).
