ABSTRACT
A deeply personal common thread runs through the seven contributions in Section 2. Each acknowledges that there is good reason to doubt his/her professional integrity: history often provides only the cruellest of mirrors. However, if there is any criticism – of professional role or function – it comes from the professionals themselves. They are only too aware of their limitations and the imperatives necessary to fulfil their professional obligations.
