ABSTRACT
We are not ‘merely an interpretive function.’ Perhaps we would have wanted to be that, pursuing an idealized image of psychoanalysis and, above all, of the psychoanalyst; but the concepts of countertransference, the analyst’s transference, enactment, and intersubjectivity have worked to our advantage in disillusioning us about our way of being coldly antiseptic in sessions.
