ABSTRACT

This chapter serves two main purposes in order to conclude the analysis. First, I re-evaluate the main research aims and findings of this study. From these findings I develop three main conclusions regarding the relationship between the integrated approach to understanding interstate conflict escalation and war in this case. Specifically, in this research I have demonstrated the utility of issues under contention in illuminating the reasons for Iran and Iraq fighting, foreign policy reciprocity in charting the evolution of their reciprocal and conflictual interaction, and power transition in highlighting the permissive and constraining force of national power in the resolution of issues under contention.
