ABSTRACT

The notion of radical politics offers a useful starting point for thinking about education as a site of counter-political action. Radical politics in the broadest sense can be understood as pursuing change at the ‘root’. That is, radical politics pursues change at the very foundation of society. It is important to remember that radical change agendas can be found on both the Left and Right. For instance, the reforms initiated by the Thatcher and Reagan governments in the UK and the US pursued and realized the radical neo-liberal reform of education that is now commonplace and common sense around the globe.
