ABSTRACT

To achieve sustainable transportation, there must also be attention to ecological design of the different transport buildings involved. It is no good conserving fossil fuels in green transportation just to waste them through lack of interest in lowenergy design of the interchange. There are surprisingly few examples of eco-design of railway and bus stations, and airport and ferry terminals. This means that the transport hub that connects them together has to make up for this indifference. What this book argues is for the need to connect green transport thinking with green design approaches at the interchange. After all, transport buildings are visited by millions every day and the examples of eco-design here, as well as the wider messages of environmental care, could be taken into the home and workplace.
