ABSTRACT

The geographical distribution pattern of the staple food in Southeast Asia was described in a Section Dietary culture of the prehistorical age of Chapter 2. The traditional dietary culture at the present day will be investigated in detail here as a reference for comparison. For this purpose, using mainly Ethnic groups of Southeast Asia by F.M. Lebar et al.,118166>245) which consists of three books, summarising many ethnographical studies on Southeast Asia, some other agricultural and cultural anthro­ pological research papers, and the results of the author's own surveys mostly in Indonesia, the dietary life or dietary culture in Southeast Asia is summarised, laying stress on the staple food of each tribe and race.
