ABSTRACT

It seems suitable here to give a brief survey of the author's life, work, and ideology for a better understanding. He was born in 1160 in Jazira Ibn 'Umar in the north of Iraq where his father occupied the post of ra'is diwiin under the Zangid lord of Mosul. He had two other brothers, the elder of whom, Majd al-Din (d. 1211), worked as deputy (wazir) in Mosul for the diwcin. The younger one, Diya' al-Din, sewed as wazir for al-Malik al-Afdal the Ayyubid, and later served as kfitib in the Mosul administration till he died in 1239.'
