ABSTRACT

This chapter is based on a case study example of good practice at Key Stage 1 (KS1) which illustrates the following principles of effective KS1 practice:

• Learning should be child-centred. • Learning should be practical and exploratory. • Learning is best acquired through motivating experiences. • Learning is enhanced through effective peer interaction. • Learning requires effective adult support and interaction. • Learning is most effective in cross-curricular contexts.
