ABSTRACT

This chapter asks why planning is at the heart of successful teaching and, by analysing feedback from educationalists, HMI, and Ofsted on past cross-curricular approaches, suggests principles for more successful topic planning, especially at medium and short term. It emphasises that schools, whilst following selected principles, should feel confident to use an appropriate planning model for their circumstances and children. Through a practical case study example, it illustrates how a medium-term plan may be devised.
