ABSTRACT
“ Asagao blooms and fades so quickly, only to prepare for the morrow' glory,” such is the theme of one of the oldest songs on the asagao or morning glory, written by the Chinese priest at the temple of Obaku near Uji, who is said to have been the first person to introduce the flower to Japan.
