ABSTRACT
Dewey had the foresight to emphasize the development of “social intelligence” and the importance of a child’s capacity to make ethical judgments as essential elements of education.
More recently education has focused on three complementary approachesacademic integrity, character development, and ethics education. There is considerable alignment between the values or virtues emphasized by these approaches even though they dier in their methodologies and foci.
