ABSTRACT

The touch (not forgetting the tap, the press, the prod and the poke) The initial thrashing and stabbing vertical arc is gradually refi ned into a very gentle contact which has a vast range of potential communicative content embedded within it. The ability to form a skilful, sensitive touch of the fi ngertip is a little noticed and little discussed aspect of expression, representation and communication. The gentlest touch can take on portentous signifi cance. Carefully placed, as if inserted into a spatiotemporal interval, a touch can be as startling as a slap.
