ABSTRACT

The police play a major role within society, protecting the public from crime, upholding the law, pursuing and bringing to justice law breakers, keeping the peace, protecting, helping and reassuring the community and acting with integrity, common sense and judgement (Home Office, 2007). Whilst this duty is accepted and promoted by police forces, the role places a heavy demand on the police officers and staff. This chapter examines the experiences of five police officers and a member of police staff working in fast response, firearms, body recovery, high-tech crime, family liaison and forensics.
