ABSTRACT

When an artist puts brush to paper, hand to clay, or ®ngers to keyboard, the boundaries of his or her mind expand. No longer is the artist thinking solely within the con®nes of the individual mind; rather, consciousness, mind, subjectivity, even self-experience shift fundamentally within a transitional ®eld within which there occurs a dialectic between the internal self and the emerging externalized self concretized in the artwork. But more precisely the artist's mind now exists in the dynamic psychological space in which both inner and outer are contained, interact and affect each other. I believe that a new de®nition of art may help to identify the nature and processes within this psychological ®eld in which art and artist interact and create each other.
