ABSTRACT
In order to answer any question, it helps to get clarity about what exactly is being asked. Indeed, this chapter addresses not one but two questions: Is every human being a person? And, do human beings begin to exist at conception? The fi rst is a moral question that inquires as to who is a member of the moral community; the second is a biological question that seeks to know when human life begins.
