ABSTRACT

In describing the health industries of Japan we consider four specific areas. First, there are the medical service facilities, the hospitals, clinics, and other facilities which provide services direct to the general public. These were discussed in detail in Chapter 4. Second, there is the pharmaceutical industry which we describe in this chapter. Third, there are the health care equipment and medical engineering industries. Finally, we have grouped together several health-care-related service industries and a number of existing but rapidly changing health care and medical industries which are thriving in the country today: these offer impressive growth potential for the future.
