ABSTRACT
There is a neat pair of polar opposites to be found in research as it is practised in academe: the two cultures of C. P. Snow – basically ‘Science’ and ‘the Arts’. Since Bertallanffy there has been a third way, which he hoped would unify these polar opposites which he labelled systems theory.
