ABSTRACT

In front of him, Jack sees what has been taken away from him because of the murder of his father. The `new country' in front of him is a re¯ection of all his positive anima energy could make possible for him if only he could reclaim it. This is a vision of his territory, and sure enough it is an erosima ®gure ± the fairy ± who then con®rms what belongs to him. Meanwhile, the giant, an exaggerated, tyrannical, parental senex ®gure, has hold of his birthright. This is a father complex (or more fully, a dyadic parental complex: the crazy, murderous giant, and his canny but colluding wife) infused with an oppressive thanima quality, haunted by his dead father.
