ABSTRACT

This chapter describes urban regeneration (UR) in Ireland as a system, applying the basic framework outlined in Chapter 1. The next chapter will follow the same outline, but will focus on IS in healthcare settings. In Chapter 1, six elements of a complex adaptive systems (CAS) were defi ned: system, agents, environmental rules, environmental factors, processes and outcomes. Rules and factors were further categorized as those outside the system-i.e., were part of the exogenous environment, and those created as a result of agent perceptions, actions and interactions over time-i.e., the endogenous environment.
