ABSTRACT

Language that is unclear and slanted gets in the way of critical thinking; quite simply, it makes it harder to do.

After all, words have meanings. They stand for objects, qualities, quantities, concepts. Different words generally mean different things. But sometimes different words mean the same thing. And sometimes the same word can mean different things. (Is it any wonder we occasionally misunderstand each other?) Choosing which words to use, and choosing how to put those words together, is tremendously important; your choices affect your meaning.
