ABSTRACT

Introduction In this chapter we provide some guidance on how to plan and deliver effective conceptual enquiry-based learning. The focus is on religious education, but there will also be guidance on how links can be made between and across RE and other areas of learning to enable learning to be more holistic and creative, as described in Chapter 5. There is guidance on how to construct useful and accessible planning and how that relates to worthwhile assessment procedures. Strategies and suggestions are supplied to enable RE managers (or coordinators or subject leaders) to implement the conceptual enquiry approach to RE across the whole school so that good quality provision of RE within the school is sustained and has real impact on pupils’ learning. Within that context is guidance about effective questioning and how to achieve meaningful pupil participation in religious education activities.
