ABSTRACT

Introduction This chapter explores how we create effective learning. In places it is contentious, given the nature of the material and the political element of education. There is an endeavour to link current educational initiatives with the teaching of religious education within the context of the QCA’s (now QCDA) A Big Picture. It is written in the spirit of enquiry and will provide discussion opportunities about what constitutes effective learning. It addresses our ideas of knowledge and belief, the value of constructivism and social constructivism within the democratic classroom, and the importance of attending to diversity and inclusion and critical and creative thinking.
