ABSTRACT
In any state there must be an ultimate source of authority. Under a written constitution this will be the Constitution itself, as interpreted by the Supreme or Constitutional Court. Under an unwritten constitution such as the United Kingdom, this ultimate source of legal authority is parliamentary sovereignty, or legislative supremacy, which rests on the political sovereignty of the people.
