Tourism in semi-rural environments: Sustainability issues and experience from the Baltic States

This chapter aims briefly to draw together three under-represented themes in the tourism literature:

• the conceptualization of tourism in semi-rural environments, beyond, yet strongly influenced by, the urban periphery;

• sustainability issues relating to tourism within the urban-rural con - tinuum;

• emerging tourism experiences in the Baltic States (Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania) under conditions of transition.
