ABSTRACT

In this and the next chapter, we will focus on the theory and practice of teaching English and will view the classroom through the eyes of some very accomplished teachers of English with some attention to the Cox models of English (see Chapter 3). We will explore their thinking using Hattie’s dimensions (see Chapter 1):

Expert teachers • A: can identify essential representations of their subject; • B: can guide learning through classroom interactions; • C: can monitor learning and provide feedback; • D: can attend to affective attributes; and • E: can infl uence student outcomes.
