ABSTRACT
The two key themes that have been central to this book are: first, that for a broad understanding of the process of international development (i.e. the subject matter of development studies), it is essential to have some familiarity with the basic economic dimensions of this process; and, second, that there are fundamental disputes between economists with very different theoretical and ideological outlooks, which can lead to confusing messages to non-economists.
