ABSTRACT

This chapter is a collection of story techniques that are designed to help to improve processes of thinking, learning and the representation of learning. They are arranged in four sections. The first, on graduated scenarios (p. 101), presents a method of helping learners to understand difficult-to-describe learning practices – such as reflective learning and critical thinking. I include a sample activity on reflective learning. It is a basic method waiting to be adapted to other contexts. The second section concerns the use of patchwork texts that allow learners to approach a topic from different perspectives (p. 108). The third section describes some storybased materials designed to prompt thinking and discussion about working in groups (p. 110). The fourth section consists of activities to enhance the epistemological devel-

opment and critical thinking of learners (p. 111). A number of references cited in theory chapters are repeated in this practical context.
