ABSTRACT

The growth of technology has significantly influenced the well-being of our society; however, a by-product of the benefits associated with technological development is that we are more than ever dependent on reliable products, product systems, and services. As a response to that dependency, we can state an interesting paradox: Due to safety concerns, there is an ever-increasing interest in building systems that aim to decrease the influence of human operators in favor of the apparent reliability associated with increased automation. In contrast, there is relatively little interest in affecting the behavior of the human actor who is responsible for the design of these products. This chapter addresses the latter issue.
