ABSTRACT

This manual focuses on providing treatment to individuals experiencing gambling problems. The programme has a cognitive behavioural treatment (CBT) approach. It supports the role of basic conditioning principles in the development and maintenance of problem and pathological gambling. It also emphasizes that an individual's thinking (e.g. the way things are interpreted) affects the individual's behaviour. It highlights the importance of changing distorted beliefs/thoughts and behaviours in reducing the frequency and severity of gambling. It provides practical information to help understand the development and maintenance of problem gambling. It also provides a range of coping skills/strategies to help change dysfunctional gambling behaviours and issues associated with it.
