ABSTRACT
The political and scientifi c interest in intermodalism has grown signifi cantly in the last three decades. It has been strongly advocated because of environmental concerns, reasons of overall effi ciency, and the benefi ts of coordination of modes to cope with growing transport fl ows (Bontekoning et al., 2004).
