ABSTRACT

It is time to change tenses, from the past to the future. So far this study has been concerned to analyse the years gone by: now it asks what lessons can be learned for the future from ‘the rubbish heap of history’. The chief aim of this concluding chapter, then, is to show what practical conclusions might be drawn for Ghana and countries like her. No attempt is made to provide a systematic summary of what has gone before, but the discussion does bring out some of the major points which have been established and tries to tie some of the loose ends together. A final section returns to the theme of this as a case study in applied development economics, to indicate some ways in which Ghana’s experiences suggest the literature may need revision.
